Pathankot is the sixth most populous city of Punjab, after Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Bathinda. Its local government is a municipal corporation. Pathankot is located in the northern-most part of Punjab and lies closely to the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Pathankot is also known as Gateway to Himachal as it is situated with very close proximity to Himachal Pradesh.
